Let’s discuss the use of the tongue.
As you may recall, the number one reason many of you stated that you would not seek counsel from an older woman was if she did not use her words wisely. So, let’s discuss the use of the tongue as Christian women.
Imagine a forest fire (this is what James likens our tongues to). The fire blazes up and then out of control, spreading and destroying everything it touches. Living things, homes, wildlife…nothing is safe from its destruction. The end result is total devastation. Loss of everything.
As grim as this picture is, and as much as we hate to admit it, our tongues can cause this level of damage if we aren’t careful to restrain our tongue. Harsh words destroy.
Instead of bringing healing, the tongue of the unwise kills testimonies, relationships, reputations, and hearts.
So, as you think about mentoring your children and raising generations for Christ, consider the use of your tongue.
If you have unleashed its fiery wrath on someone, young or old, seek forgiveness. Repent, and be forgiven. (Moms, be careful of your tone of voice with your children. Put yourself in their place. Record your tone of voice and see if you would respect someone speaking to you as you do to them!)
Psalm 19: 14. “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.”
