How to drive fear from your mind Biblically.

I had a bad dream last night. I dreamed that Peter died. It was one of those seemingly real dreams where I was grieving in my sleep. I think that I was thinking about death because a family we are currently praying is going through this in real life. Needless to say, it was a fitful sleep. Then my mind turned to the possibility of car accidents. Peter is going to pick up Holly this morning from camp in New Hampshire. My thoughts were running wild in my sleep.

All this noise, worry and fear. And I went to bed last night realizing that God has good plans for me, that come from His heart. Ps. 33:11.This morning, it was confirmed again in my reading.

Psalm 37 has always been one of my favorite Psalms. I loved it so much that we memorized it with our kids.

It begins with “Fret not.”

Fret not.

Do not get heated, rattled or worried. The Lord can be trusted.

Trust in the Lord and…

Instead of fretting and fuming, “Trust in the Lord AND be doing good.

Doing the right thing in times of trial is helpful. Just do the next right thing.

Be still.

Be still before the Lord. Just wait for Him. This is where peace comes in. It is in the waiting. In the calm surrender.

Fret not. Trust the Lord. Delight in the Lord. Commit my ways to the Lord. Be still before the Lord.

That ought to keep me busy today. How about you? 🙂

  • I really enjoyed this post and the wisdom it contains.
Trusting God helps us to know the next right thing to do and brings us peace at the same time.

It was very nice meeting you, too. 🙂

  • Love this! With all the time James spends on the road, and all the time we have apart from each other… I can totally relate. And it’s amazing how, as we actively trust and commit and delight, He overwhelms us with His peace and joy. Thanks Sarah!
