Trust: 1. Assured reliance on the character, strength or truth of someone or something, 2. A basis of reliance, faith or hope   3. a confident hope   4. to place confidence in someone or something,   5. To rely on or the truth of something; Synonyms: confidence, credence, acceptance, certainty; Antonyms: mistrust, distrust

Who do you trust?

Who can you rely on?  Is it a friend, a family member, a co-worker?

Why do you trust that person?  Personally, I trust people that I can really depend on to listen and to care.

But no friend can hold a candlestick to our Lord.  He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the creator of the world. He is the friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Are you going through something right now that scares you because you can’t see through it?  Maybe you are worried about your grades in school, or maybe a family member is sick with a terminal illness like cancer.  Maybe you are having marital or family problems.  Maybe you have a financial situation; maybe the car broke down—or maybe you are just having a bad day.

Maybe everything just looks bleak.

Well, friends, there is a solution to this problem.  Just like you, I have had several of these problems. I have had health problems, family problems, financial problems.

I am not telling you this to gloat—I am telling you this to show you that I am in the same position.

I want to share with you the key to handling these situations.

What is the solution?

Trusting God.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Let’s take a look at this verse.

“Trust in the Lord.” Trust.  What is trust? The dictionary says that trust is Assured reliance on the character strength or the truth of someone or something—basically, putting your full confidence in something.  According to this verse, you are to put your full confidence in the Lord.

“With all thine heart.” This next phrase means with your whole being. Your whole existence—the same passion you have for that someone (or something) you love.

Trust must not and can not be light-hearted.  We have to give it one hundred percent.  Don’t trust God for just one or two things in your life.  Give him all of your problems.

God tells us in his word that we ought to be casting our cares upon him, because he cares for us (I Peter 5:7).

Isaiah 26:4 says, “Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength.”  The Lord has a sovereign plan for each and every life—including yours.  God says he has plans for you—plans to prosper you, and not to harm you. Plans to give hope and the future.  Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call unto me, and I will answer you, and show thee great and mighty things that thou knowest not.”

God has a great and amazing plan for our lives. We just have to trust him, and not do things our own way.

“Lean not unto thine own understanding.” As humans, we have very limited understanding of things. And yet, we use our simple judgments to make our own decisions.

Think of this: our God created everything!  So, he knows everything. He knows about everything. He knows the future.

He knows your future.

God has plans that are far above our plans, and thoughts that are higher than our thoughts.  Let’s let go of the problems we think we can handle ourselves, and give them to the King of Kings.

“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path.” Acknowledge God, and he will direct your footing.

You don’t need to read your own map. The Lord knows where you are headed because he made the road!

Let’s trust him with all or our hearts today.
