A Small Kindness

One thing I’ve learned recently is that many, many people have heavy hearts at Christmas time. This year, especially, it seems that people around me have so much to bear.

I know I’m clueless, because I’ve only known happiness at Christmas, but God has seen fit to pull back my blinders to show me the heartache that exists.

People with no loving family who are just plain lonely, a husband who just lost his young wife, children who are now motherless, women who are in abusive situations who’d dread being with their spouse during the holiday, and so much more.

If you can help to brighten just one person’s day,

perhaps by a cookie delivery,

or a present left on the step,

or a simple phone call, won’t you do it?

We can’t take the pain away, but we can help ease it.

This world is broken, but the light of hope shines through a little brighter when we are kind to one another.

Do you have a little money to give a young, single mom to help her get some toys for her kids?

Can you open your home to a lonely college student, who is far away from home?

What can you do? I know we can’t do everything…

But we can all do something for just one person.

May God bless all of you, who dread the upcoming holidays because they reopen old wounds.

May the God of grace, peace and love be close to you. And may someone show you a small kindness.

*If I can pray for you, shoot me an email at joyfilledmama@gmail.com I put a list of names by my kitchen sink so I won’t forget and pray for each name as I wash dishes.  🙂

  • Wonderful encouragement, Sarah. Just last night when picking up pizza, I was talking to a man whose only home is under a nearby overpass where he sleeps with his girlfriend and their dog. It wasn’t my opportunity to buy them dinner that allowed me to talk to him, but the fact that another person had taken the opportunity to buy them a pizza while she bought one for her own family. So she and I spent a few minutes chatting with him while our pizzas baked.

Helping those in need isn’t rocket science. Too bad I still find it doesn’t always come naturally, though.

    Blessings,
    Tim
