You Know All About Me

Psalm 139

O Lord, you have searched me and known me!

God knows all about me and has taken the time to know me intimately and thoroughly.

The word “searched” means to examine with pain and great care.

You know when I sit down and when I rise up:

You know when I get up and when I go to bed. You know when I eat, work, play or relax.

You discern my thoughts from afar,

You know what I think about and understand them.

All my thoughts are seen by you, though hidden from others.

My thoughts stem from my heart, which you also know.

Your gaze is penetrating, like x-ray vision. You see my whole being.

You search out my path and my lying down,

You spread out a path before me and surround me as I walk it, whether waking or sleeping.

and are aquainted with all my ways.

You know all my ways.

You know the way I think, speak, act and react.

You know the way I eat my meals, do my housework, raise my kids.

You know the way I struggle, sin, fail and fall.

Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.

You know all my words.

You know all the words I don’t speak.

You know whether they are good and godly or selfish and sinful.

You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.

You guide me and protect me and I walk through life.

Like a mother tucking a child tightly into bed so he won’t fall out,

you “hem me in” and set boundries for me for my protection.

You sometimes propel me to do things that are out of my comfort zone.

You sometimes limit me from doing things that I think are right.

You do all this for my good, growth and protection.
