The Verdict is in on Camping. {plus photos}

Two weeks ago, I was sitting at my parent’s house paging through Cape Cod Life magazine. An article about Yurts caught my eye, so I looked them up online. It brought me to a website I had visited before: Nickerson State Park.

My husband and I had tried to get reservations at NSP two years prior, but on the day that the phone reservations went “live” neither of us could get through. For whatever reason, this place is booked up to 6 months in advance.

But, as I was browsing their site, I notices some tent spot vacancies. I called, and the lady in reservations told me that she could not believe that I was getting a tent site for the week of July 4th. Someone had JUST cancelled, and I had JUST checked online and called. I reserved it. WE didn’t even have a tent.

This was one of those vacations where we were just along for the ride. God seemed to be taking care of everything for us. Someone offered us a tent and camping equipment…everything we needed in fact. On our way down to the Cape, the traffic was backed up to Plymouth on Rte. 3, so Peter decided to try route 3A. We flew all the way down. If you know anything about Cape traffic, that is unbelievable.

The weather at night was beautiful, so we were not hot in the tent at night. We “happened” upon a beautiful Fourth of July parade just 10 minutes before it started in Orleans on our way to “grab coffee.”

This is how our week went. It was lovely.

We enjoyed the outdoors with our kids, went bike riding and swimming during the day and sat around the camp fire at night. We enjoyed sight seeing around the Cape and ate lots of great seafood.

Hope learned the ten commandments to finger motions and practiced them. Peter taught us what he was learning in his devotions at night around the campfire. We spoke of the goodness of God in creating all things.

Hope asked me if it was “covetous” to want to be something that you can’t be. I asked “like what?” Her reply:”I try to be more like Christ, and I want to be more like Him, but I can’t seem to be.”  I explained that we all should covet that, and that is a sign of God’s grace in her life to even desire that. That is one thing you can covet.

We loved camping.

Hopie making a decoration for our picnic table. It was a swag with pine cones in the middle. Pretty creative.

Hope and Matt caught a brine shrimp. Hope named him "Tedward" and then cried when I told her she had to let it go.
