Guest Post: “Four Ways To Remember To Live For God”

I am so excited to have my friend, Karen, guest posting for me today. She and her husband minister at Dublin Christian Academy, the New England boarding school that I mentioned last week.

I have had a long friendship with Karen. She and her husband were saved under the ministry of my father in law. Karen was one of those ladies who dug into the word and immediately began to grow. We worked together in youth ministries for years. Her girls used to babysit my kids when they were little. Our families would get together for pizza on long weekends. We have a long history. 🙂 And she is one of those wise women we are talking about.

I personally think that Karen has multiple spiritual gifts. She wise and discerning. She has the gift of hospitality and has always had the ability to give wise, Biblical counsel. I am thankful for our friendship!

Four Ways To Remember To Live For God

by Karen Wright

The busier we are, the more forgetful we become.

My busy, 31-year-old daughter has 3 young boys, and she is forgetful all the time!
As we get older and we enter different phases of life—whether hormonal or from physical illness—our minds can get much worse!  We need to be prepared for when our mind fails us! Once, when my youngest daughter was at home, I asked her if she had told me something.  She said “Mom, I already told you that…and remember??  You don’t remember anything!”
We are (or should be) busy, and being busy is a good thing.  However,  the busier we are, the more forgetful we become!
How can we remember to live for God?
Colossians 3:16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
This verse clearly sums up what is so important in a woman’s life!:
  1. Memorize scripture, dwell on it and apply it to your life.
  2. Teach, encourage others according to scripture.
  3. Listen to good godly spiritual songs/music.
  4. Be thankful.
So how can we keep our minds on the things listed above when we are so prone to forget them?

Here are four  helpful ways:

  1. Memorizing, dwelling and applying scripture to our lives .
  2. Teaching and encouraging others according to scripture.
  3. Listening to good godly spiritual songs.
  4. Being thankful! (God has given us so much!).

Rather than talking to yourself, talk to God!  I have found that talking to God throughout my busy day helps as well.  It is natural to talk to God about the big things that happen in life….but tell God about the little, daily problems and annoyances too!  That way they don’t turn into the big things!

Filling my mind with good, scripture-based music has been a big help to me.  I did not come to know Jesus as my Savior until I was in my late twenties, so I did not have the opportunity or privilege of learning Bible verses as a child.  Filling my mind with good music containing scripture has gotten me through many-a-day, as life’s trials affected me in one way or another.  For one particular period of time, I went through a lot of forgetfulness because of various circumstances.  The songs I had memorized and sung over and over again  in church and in my home while raising my girls were NEVER forgotten and they were such an encouragement to me; They brought my mind back to the right focus on the circumstances and God.

Be THANKFUL ALWAYS.  This is so hard to do, especially when going through difficult times.  But it is so important for our mind, and it brings forth much fruit.

It goes without saying that a good, balanced, solid Bible-preaching church is a must to help our memory years down the road!  We were so blessed to raise our two daughters in such a church.  Now they are ministering and raising their children in a similar church.

You are teaching as you live your life!  As you live as Christian woman, remember that Jesus is ENOUGH for every aspect of your life.  Whether we are married or single, whether we are a mom or not, Jesus is always enough, and your personal relationship with Him should always be first.  I have seen many women over the years put husband, children, or friends before God, and they have been disappointed over and over.  God is not pleased if anyone else takes first place in your life.  As you put Him first, He will help you be the best woman, wife, mother, etc!  He will give you unspeakable joy, and peace as well!  Whether you are encouraging your husband, your grown children or your friends, always encourage with scripturally godly advice—always pointing them to God.  Even if they don’t like it!
