As A Man Thinks, So Is He
Have you all seen the new devotional by Rand Hummel called There4?
The full title is “Man ruined his life in sin, there4, God’s remedy is Jesus Christ.” Rebekah and Emily came home from camp with it and started it, and now I am doing the devotional together with some ladies in an accountability group.
It is extremely convicting, and I would highly recommend it for all teens as well as adults.
Just to give you a little preview of what it is like, he is going through Romans 1 and talking about how God gives man up to our own sinful desires after a time of rejecting God’s revealed truth. He talks about how our attitudes become our actions. “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. ”
He explains that when you reject God and his commands, then you are actually worshiping yourself. Then he lists the sins from Rom. 1:29-32 that God-haters indulge in, all the while warning us to not participate in the same behavior. If you are knowingly practicing and relishing these sins, you are on a slippery slope to becoming a Romans 1 statistic, he explains. If you know it is sin, then change it.
- unrighteousness-unjust, wrong and not right.
- fornication- sexual sin, immorality
- covetousness- greediness, the desire for more motivate by a discontent heart, longing for more than God has given us or intended us to have.
- envy- jealousy, bothered to the point of thinking evil at the success and happiness of another person, wanting what others have and not wanting them to have it.
- debate- contentious, quarrelsome
- malignity- thinking the worst of others, a wicked disposition
- whisperer-backbiting, malicious, secret slanderer behind another persons back
- covenant breakers- undependable, unreliable
- implacable- unforgiving, quarrelsome, absolutely irreconcilable
I would highly recommend this for your teens. Rand Hummel is the director of the Wilds of New England Christian Camp and has done a wonderful job encouraging kids to hate their sin and “love God more.” Our own kids have benefitted from his ministry and for that we are truly thankful.

How do you become a part of a study group? Thanks.
We have an accountability group on FB, Pam called “Good Morning Girls- New England at Heart” where we go through a book and comment daily on what we learned. You are welcome to join.
