1 Minute Devotional #5 {Time, Money and Things: They Don’t Belong To You}
Hey, girls.
Just a quick thought for today. And it’s a no-brainer, but I thought I’d share it anyway.
Life is busy, time is short and we are servants answerable to God for our use of time. Christmas is work, let’s face it. And work takes time, but as servants of God, we can do the work for His glory.
Mary saw herself as a servant–>a handmaiden of the Lord. “Behold, the handmaiden of the Lord. Be it done to me according to thy word.”
She’s saying, “Yes, Lord. Whatever you want.” She realized that her life, time, things, her body, her everything was at God’s disposal.
And really, that’s how our life should be. Life is made up of time, and how we use our time is really, really important. John Piper wrote a famous book entitled “Don’t Waste Your Life”, which I personally have never read, but the title alone is thought provoking enough. But when we get down to the nitty gritty’s –what does wasting your time and things look like?
Idleness, sloth, meaningless activity, wasting time on social media or watching too much television, or sitting reading too many book. Whatever…you know in your own heart what is “too much” for you.
At the end of the day, we’re going to give an account of how we used our lives as servants of God. Jonathan Edwards had the notion of living each day as though, at the end of it, he would give an account to God for it.
As His servant, ALL of our resources are at His disposal. My time is not my own. My money is not my own. My house, my car, my coffee, my facebook statuses are not my own because I belong to another.
I serve God. I’m his handmaiden, like Mary.
That should change the way I live.
With much love to you all today, as you go live for our Savior,
Sarah
Wonderful insight, Sarah. Thanks for pointing out that Mary didn’t give herself to God; she already knew she was God’s to use as he chose. Would we all knew that all the time.
It puts it in perspective when we realize that all we own is really His. We can’t take it with us. We can only use it up for His glory here.
Thank you so much Sarah for all of these devotionals! They’ve been exactly what I needed to refocus my attention on the Lord 🙂 I’m so grateful you’ve taken time out of your day to write these up for us 🙂 Printing them out!!
I’m so glad. It’s mostly what I learn about in my own time with the Lord…and I try to write them as quickly as possible without slaughtering the King’s English. lol
Amen!! This is so, so true and something to pay attention to every day. None of us knows how much time we have left to serve the Lord in this life; we want to make sure our life counts for His glory. Thanks so much for this thought-provoking post.
Yes, it’s important to remember that all of our resources are His!
