Favorite Carefree Summer Activities

Summer is here, and in my book, doing nothing together is family building. πŸ™‚

Some of our favorite summer activities:

1. Packing up a lunch and heading to the beach. We live 45 minutes from Cape Cod, so we have so many great beaches to choose from. The kids are always content at the beach and so is mama. πŸ™‚ It’s a good thing.

2. Light the outdoor fire pit and just talk or make smores.

3. Turn on the outdoor lights and just sit. I bought mine from Target and love them. They always make the evening more festive.

4. Make root beer floats. Or coke. Or orange. πŸ™‚

5. Roast corn in the husk for dinner. On summer nights when it’s too hot to cook, we eat simple things. Roasting corn is our new favorite. Soak the corn on the cob in the husks for 20 minutes. Place on the hot grill, turning, for 15 minutes or so. Delish.

6. Make homemade ice cream. We bought this ice cream making ball

and the kids love rolling it around and then eating the ice cream. I personally think making ice cream can be expensive, so we don’t do it very often!

7. Clam bake on the stove. I think it’s a New England thing, but it wouldn’t be summer without it. Instructions here.

8. Go out for ice cream. Especially after the beach. Especially to a place where they sell orange creamsicle twist soft serve.

9. Outdoor movies. These are usually free and include family friendly titles. Bring a blanket, bug spray, and enjoy.

10. Sight seeing in historic towns. Okay, I usually love this because Peter takes us to lunch and to any great bakeries that he can find because he knows me and my love for fruit tarts.

Your turn. Β What favorite summer activity are you most looking forward to?

  • Sarah, all great ideas. I too love creamsicle twist ice cream cones. Perry’s on Rte. 28, Wareham is where I go for them. Walking the beach at sunset is one of my favorite things. Sitting on the deck with a tall, cool glass of lemonade watching fireflies. Loved catching them when I was young.

    • I just made homemade lemonade for lunch today! Love it. And did you know that Mia’s Dairy Bar behind Walmart in Halifax (heading towards Monponsett on 58) has creamsicle twist? Oh, yes they do and I am a frequent customer. πŸ™‚
