One Decision Away From Ruin

If you ignore or treat lightly God’s word, you may be just one decision away from life altering consequences.

Think Samson. How could an OT man be relevant to women today? Yesterday, we talked about why the life of Samson was relevant and today we are going to learn from his mistakes. 

Fact: Wise women learn from the mistakes of others.

We don’t have to experience sin for ourselves to see how lives can be totally devastated by it.

When we see the consequences of sin--the destroyed marriages, the broken relationships, the wasted lives– we are more inclined to fear God and sin the way we should.

I don’t know about you, but fear sets in when you watch your girl friends walk away and leave their children and husband for no predictable reason. I am sad to say that I have several friends, who have left it all. (women! leaving their children. this blows my mind.) It all becomes real when you realize that we are all made of the same stuff.

Think about the end of Samson, humiliated, defeated, blinded and lying there dead under the mass of rubble. His mother must have rung her hands in sorrow at the news of her sons death, knowing that it didn’t have to end like this. If only he had done things differently.

If only he had listened.

He had everything he needed to be successful, but he followed his own lusts instead of God’s plain commands.

If you want to see the end of your pet sin, follow it to its natural end. And not the Hollywood ending. Hollywood glamorizes sin as though it is normal and fun. Things like gossip, adultery, revenge and murder are things our culture embrace as entertaining, on the big screen anyway.

God’s people are expected to live godly lives.

Why are covetousness, an unforgiving spirit, anger, wrath, bitterness so dangerous?

Because the person who indulges in these things is not leading a godly life. These are the traits of the ungodly. They are unlike Christ.

When we see scripture as it is—-> a guide for life, a hedge to keep us from falling, a warning about where our sin will take us and a map to point us to Christ, <——we would have an easier time making right choices.So, today’s though:

Do you value God’s word?
