Small and Insignificant
“What did you do today?”–my friend asks and I really have no answers.
My mind ponders, and tries to recall.
I did do things, but they seem so insignificant. Too small to mention.

Late at night Hopie snuggles close, and says: “Thank you for teaching me to braid my doll’s hair, Momma.”
Then it clicks.
Sometimes it is my smallest child, my constant shadow, that helps me to recall the things that I see as too small to mention.
She remembers, because they were the big things to her.
The small things are the big things to my child.
In a fast paced, productivity based world, where if you don’t produce or make income, you are devalued, it is hard to remember that these things DO matter to someone– To the most important people in our lives, and to the God who has called us to love and serve our children.
Amen, Sarah! The little things are so important…One thing that I have learned is that it takes lots of little things to make big things. I believe that we are going to find that those little things like…”And whoever gives to one of these little ones [in rank or influence] even a cup of cold water because he is My disciple, surely, I declare to you, he shall lose his reward.” Matt. 10:42 (Amplified Bible)…will be the treasures that are getting stored in heaven, instead of the big “flash-in-the-pan” things that we seem to measure “greatness” by…I have thought, periodically, about this scripture while washing my countertops!:) “Whatever may be your task, work at it heartily (from the soul), as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, Knowing (with all certainty) that it is from the Lord [and not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your (real) reward. [The One Whom] you are actually serving [is] the Lord Christ, the Messiah.” Colossian 3:23-24 (Amplified Bible) Isn’t this great news! The Lord is good!
This was so helpful to me as yesterday I was lamenting the fact that I don’t really do anything to serve at church right now as I go to the main service with my children. But then I read this and realize that serving is more than what happens at the church building – it’s a lifestyle! I really appreciate this blog post and pray today to do the big things that matter most to the little people in my home 🙂
So precious and a good reminder. 🙂
