I Can’t Do Everything, But I Can Do Something

Do you ever feel like you are not qualified to do what you are supposed to do in life?

Do you believe that God qualifies the called vs. “calling the qualified”?

Sometimes God gives me opportunities and I tend to think “Not me! I can’t. I am not really a _________!”{fill in the blank with whatever it is I think I can’t do well at that moment in time.}

I tend to encourage other women to attempt great things for God, but with myself, I tend to diminish what I do. I just did this again this week.

When given the oppportunity to write an article, I reply: “Yes, I will, but I am not really a writer.”

I was recently asked to speak at a ladies meeting. My reply: “Sure, I would love to, but I am not really a speaker.

When asked to counsel a hurting friend: “Sure, I’ll help, but I am not really a counselor.”

When asked to photograph a friend’s baby: “Sure, I can try, but….blah, blah, blah.”

Same thing when asked to paint a picture, mentor a struggling believer, help a friend pick out paint colors, etc…

The truth is, I am a writer. I do write.

I am a speaker. I do speak.

I am a teacher. I do teach.

I am a counselor. I do counsel.

I am a painter. I paint.

Why is it then, that I diminish myself?

Maybe it is because I do not want the person asking to be disappointed. (You know- some kind of lame disclaimer.  “If you are not completely satisfied, remember, I warned you!!”) Or maybe it is because I don’t do ______________ as well as I wish I could or as well as another person.

But,  I can do them and if God gives me the opportunity, I should do them, to the best of my ability. It may not be as well as someone else could do it, but as long as I do my best, the “doling” out of talent is God’s business.

I may not be able to do everything, but I can do something.

I may not have everything to give, but I have something to give.

I am a steward.  Nothing is by accident. God ordains my opportunities.

What has God asked you to do today? Do you feel it is bigger than you?  If God has given you a task, He will help you to complete it.

Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

Comparing yourself to others will totally freeze your productivity. It will drain all your joy.

Do you find yourself comparing yourself to others? Does it diminish your effectiveness? Are you less inclined to try new things because of it?
