Go Ahead: Give a Gift To YOUR Grinch! {You know who she is!}

Giving says more about the character of the  giver than it does about the character of the recipient.

This Christmas, why not buy a little something for “THAT” person…you know…the one who is hard to love. The one who is unlovely, the one who is critical of you to others, the one who is unkind with their words. The mean girl.

Go ahead. Just do it.

Love them because Christ loved you.

Love them because it is who YOU are, and because of Christ living in you and not because they necessarily deserve it.

This is one lesson that we have tried to teach our kids. To be loving to that  mean child.  Why? Because  Christ loved us when we were all hate towards Him. So, while we are out buying a gift for “that” mean child, they are brought face to face with their own selfishness and their lack of desire to want to love that person. {a hard lesson to learn!} They can then admit that they have no love on their own, and we can pray for that love. It comes supernaturally. {The natural man wants to repay evil for evil. Tit for tat. Vengeance.}

It is easy to give to our friends- to those we love, and to those who are pleasant and kind in return- but how about doing good to those who have positioned themselves as your enemies? To those who are rude or callous towards you? Or to the person who despitefully uses you? Why? Because there are bigger issues going on than their immediate behavior. They have an eternal soul. They need to know Christ’s love.

As my friend Kim would say, “Kill them with Kindness.”

You can do it because Christ did it already for us.
