A post in which I discuss my kids coming home, ordering {cringe} teacher’s manuals, and disagreement.

Happy Saturday!

First and most importantly, my 3 kids are coming home from the Wilds today. I cannot wait to hear all their stories! I am so thankful to have such an excellent place to send my kids in New England.

My three teens and my niece all ready for camp!
  • This week I will be ordering my school curriculum. In truth, I cringe at spending money on textbooks and teachers manuals. I would much rather spend my money on great classic books, fine art, season passes to museums, art lessons and the like. But, I know text books are a necessary evil. Someday I am going to start a blog on how to educate your children using The History Channel and The Discovery Channel. (that was a joke…sorta…please do not be concerned. I assure you, all of my children test very well on their standardized testing, regardless of my aversion to textbooks. You know that I am very much a living book, living experience kinda gal.) If you are just starting out homeschooling, you may enjoy this article.
  • How do you react when someone disagrees with you? Do you get defensive and ridiculous? Do you take it as a personal attack, or are you okay with disagreement over ideas? If you tend to attack when someone disagrees with your position on things, you might be this, or you do not understand how to debate well. I enjoyed this article. This writer also saw serious problems in the virally popular book  by Ann Voskamp, “One Thousand Gifts.”  I totally agree. Being nice is not the end all, ladies. (Incase you are wondering, I really did want to like this book. I loved the idea of being thankful for everything. But I knew two chapters into it that something was off theologically. Does it make you feel better that I really wanted to like it? Feelings Schmeelings.) Truth is truth, regardless of how it makes me feel.
  • Did you catch all of our great guest posts this week? Emily talks about taking Gods plans for your day with grace, and Charity talks about what teens really need from parents and mentors. Next week we have another wonderful guest post from an IRL friend all the way from Austria! 🙂

Enjoy your families and have a wonderful weekend!

  • Pls share with us some of the kids stories and the curriculum you will be ordering for your kids school year.

  • Have you ever read “The Peace Maker” by Ken Sande?? Jonas says it’s the best book he’s ever read on conflict. Your paragraph on having a disagreement made me think of it. I totally think it would be fine to watch the history and discovery channel for school! 😉 haha!
