Be All There. Right Where You Are

Twenty two days and counting down. That is how much time I have until I drive my firstborn down to college and leave her for a semester. My baby. The one I’ve homeschooled, the one I taught to read and multiply. The one whose tiny violin I held up to her chin for hours and hours in the early years.

This morning, well before sunrise, Rebekah and I took off for an early morning coffee and walk on the beach. Just the two of us.

The beach was beautiful and peaceful. We talked about the awesomeness of God who holds all of this together- the sea, the tides, the small creatures that are there every day, that we never see or think about. He holds it all together and we can’t even keep our own little house tidy. We talked about writing and she recommended books that she’s read and loved. We made plans for outlet shopping and packing for school.

Thankful for today. Today I have an entire day to be all there for her and all of my kids.

  • So glad you get to enjoy today. I keep doing the math in my head … I have 5 more years before college. It’s goes so quickly.

  • Sarah, this made me cry! Enjoy this time…! There are wonderful times ahead! Your relationship with Bek will grow even closer…..and to the Lord as you REALLY trust Him! It will be so exciting as you watch Bek grow closer to God and to depend on Him as well! Love ya!

  • 15 days and counting…our first, homeschooled all his life too, leaves for college. God has been so gracious to bless us with him. He has refined us as parents and now surrenders his life to the Lord’s servce. Praying for you during this transition in life…God is blessing for sure !

    • Lynda, I feel your pain! 🙂 it is certainly bitter sweet! Hang in there… I’ll be crying right there along with you! 🙂

  • I hope you blog a lot about your experiences taking your daughter to college. My oldest is going to be a sophomore in high school, I’m watching the days speed by and it makes me sad/glad. You know?

  • Last year our daughter left for college and we too had a morning like this, only not at the beach. They are such special times. I’m thankful the Lord blesses us with them. This past weekend we moved her back to college. Her maturity and growth in the Lord in one year leaves me in awe.
