Best Interests to Pursue When You Must Rest

Yesterday, I got a positive mono test.

I am kinda relieved, because I was secretly beginning to wonder if I was just becoming lazy. Or dying. I have been unwell since mid-May, and this was not the way that I planned to start my summer. My summer’s are like gold to me. As a matter of fact, I tell my kids that I am happier about the school year being over than they are. (not the greatest endorsement for homeschooling, I know. But, it is true– in my case–being sick and all. You understand, don’t you? ) 🙂

So, I need a plan.

I am not going to waste my summer because I have mono.

Here are the best interests to pursue when you must rest.

Reading.

I’m totally taking advantage of this. To take advantage of my down time to read, read, read. I am an avid reader, so this is no hardship. My husband joked with me that this sickness may be just the answer to prayer we have been looking for Bek’s college fund, because I will be home and not shopping. (before you think he is cruel, he is totally kidding. Anyone who knows Peter could see him saying this with his raised eyebrow and his very dry sense of humor.) I believe he has forgotten about shopping via the computer. (wink)

Planning for future activities.

I’m planning my fall curriculum.  I usually place a huge order with CBD, Rainbow Resources and Timberdoodle. Plus, I am only planning for 4 this fall. Rebekah is off to college. (sniff, sniff.)

Artwork.

I plan to paint to my hearts content.   I love to watercolor when I get the chance.  My sisters know what they will be getting come Christmas. 🙂 You could also learn cross stitch, knitting or any other handicraft.

Handwriting and letter writing.

Have you ever tried Spencerian handwriting? How about calligraphy? Both are attainable with some practice. Then I can use to write letters. I’ve always enjoyed having a penpal and sending hand made cards to friend.

Learning.

Take an online course, watch YouTube videos, take a free webinar. Or use the library and the great resources they have. I would love to learn basket weaving or punchneedle.

What would you add to this list had to rest for 6 weeks?

  • Oh, no!!! I remember making a similar plan when I feared I was coming down with chicken pox as a highschooler–I was going to paint, draw and learn French. But I wasn’t a mom!! And I had my own mother to wait on me!

On the other hand, I’m glad you’ve identified what’s dragging you down. Feel better soon!

  • Sarah use this time for you. Read, relax and paint. You do such a good job. Paint and try and sell the paintings towards the college fund…lol Praying for you

  • So sorry you are not feeling well! I know how hard it is to stop and rest when you see so many things that you want to get done. Happy painting and reading 🙂

  • I also had mono . . . not easy to deal with when you have a family to take care of. Praying for a quick and easy recovery! I think you should take up knitting! I taught myself using the Klutz Knitting book. I figured if it was written with a 12 year old in mind I could certainly do it . . . with the help of a few friends and many youtube videos 🙂

    • Oh,knitting is definitely something I should learn!! I have done some, but not with any success! Gotta love those Klutz books!

      Sent from my iPod

  • So sorry to hear you have mono. I hope you are able to get the rest you need and feel well again soon. I’ll be praying 🙂

  • Praying for you. One of my roommates in college had mono… not a fun thing to deal with, especially with other responsibilities. Praying also that your family does not get it.
