Get ready for our Summer Book Club!
I’m ready to jump into summer, and one of my favorite parts of summer is reading together with you.
If you are looking for a community of kindred spirits who love discussing good books and you love to learn and grow, I’d like to invite you to join me for a six week book club!
This summer we are reading
HUNGRY: LEARNING TO FEED YOUR SOUL WITH CHRIST
by Rondi Lauterback.
This book was one of my favorite reads of 2020 and as soon as I read it, I knew it would be a pick for our summer book club.
Hungry: Learning to Feed Your Soul with Christ explores our physical and spiritual hunger.
Here’s the book description:
“Hunger: it drives our bodies, shapes our day, and affects our choices.
We are all too familiar with our physical hunger and the guilt it often inspires. But God designed us to hunger—our hunger is good! It shows we are meant to depend on something outside ourselves for satisfaction.
But what about the hunger we feel in our souls?
While also from God, our spiritual hunger is corrupted—leaving us binging on “junk food” like our idols and cravings. Where do we find true satisfaction for our hungry souls?
It comes when our souls feast on the Word of God—and on Jesus himself. Rondi shows us how to prepare a Bible study like a recipe for a spiritual banquet that will truly fill us.
Learn how to consume the Bible instead of just reading it—and then how to share this meal with the hungry around you.”
"To all who are running on empty, feeding on junk, rummaging for scraps or pretending you’re fine. Come. Because God has come in person to spread a table for us in the wilderness. Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” John 6:35. Let’s go to his feast together." Rondi Lauterbach
You’ll love her down-to-earth, insightful teaching style. She’s sweet and relatable but not wishy-washy. She’s rock solid on the gospel and it’s implications for our everyday lives.
For instance, she reasons that in a world that encourages women to find strength and meaning inside of ourselves, she notes that “self-awareness might help us to diagnose our hunger, but looking inside ourselves for the answer assumes that we can fill our own souls. …When our stomachs are empty, we don’t turn inward. We open the refrigerator. Where do we go to find food for our souls?” Her answer is to Jesus, the bread of life.
We’ll also discuss two big questions: “Is God good?” and “Is He mad at me?”
We begin this study Tuesday, June 1st!
If you’d like to read along with us, please go here to request to join our private Facebook group where you’ll have access to the six week reading schedule, teaching videos, and the weekly discussion forum post (each Tuesday morning) where you can share your observations, favorite quotes, and “aha” moments with the rest of us. I’ll be sharing what meant a lot to me in my Instagram stories just like we have in past years for We Would See Jesus, Instruments in the Redeemers Hands, Humility, and other book study sessions.
Also, I also have a live interview with author Rondi Lauterback planned for you on June 15th! (More details to follow!)
This entire book study can be done on your own timeframe, so there’s no pressure to get it done at a specific time. Some of us are on the East Coast and some on the West, so share and contribute to this ongoing conversation as you can! (This is helpful for mothers of young children which is why I love this format. We are all busy with what is in front of us!)
I know this book will be a blessing to you!
So grab a copy of the book, and join us in the Summer Book Study FB group. I’m excited for what the Lord will teach us all!
